Discussion party
How a daycare team achieved better understanding and strengthened relationships through an intensive discussion about boundaries and rules.
Initial situation
Following their audit, a team at a daycare centre wanted to take a close look at their open work in particular. During the process, they increasingly reached their limits when it came to the children’s freedom. Some wanted to allow everything, others wanted to determine which rules applied. They invited me to the team meeting to get a better understanding of the topic of ‘boundaries’.
Input and discussion
Things are heating up
A brief ten-minute input gave a quick overview of boundaries, ways to say ‘no’, possibilities for agreements and the meaning of rules. The discussion then opened up and things got heated! I realised that this discussion was long overdue.
Team-Building
Questions, laughter, and understanding
The professionals were able to ask each other questions and clarify points of view. In some places, I was able to clarify technical questions or add my own experience. There was a lot of laughter and we had fun exploring the topic. It was less about reaching an agreement immediately and more about gaining a better understanding of each other.
Outcome
This strengthened relationships within the team and deepened trust.
