Benefiting from others' experiences
In a discussion panel on the topic of saying “no,” various viewpoints and methods were explored, leading to practical insights and valuable tips.
Initial situation
At a discussion party on the topic of ‘Saying no and sticking to it’, a single dad, a part-time single mum and a high school teacher came together. What became so clear were the different viewpoints and methods of how everyone practiced saying no and setting boundaries.
Different Approaches
Diverse Perspectives
They ranged from harsh distance to softened and always negotiable boundaries that were constantly being pushed back for fear of consequences.
Exchange of Methods and Tips
Phrasing and Experiences
Everyone exchanged views on formulations and situations. In certain situations, some were stronger and were therefore able to give tips. One participant later wrote to me: ‘My highlight was when someone said: ’I need to think about this and I’ll give you an answer in half an hour.’ That really got me thinking and has really proved its worth in everyday life! I no longer automatically say ‘no’ and then have difficulties with the consequences!’
Outcome
The discussion led to practical insights and new perspectives that have proven extremely helpful in everyday life.
